ATLAS: EARTH is Selling Virtual Land. Sounds like a Scam, Right? Not so Fast

When we heard about companies like Earth.io, we were intrigued but stayed clear of committing any money given the level of future promises. The company has yet to prove anything beyond a simple birds eye grid view of the planet. That’s where ATLAS: EARTH caught our attention.

ATLAS: EARTH claims to be a real “3d” “game-like” environment mixed with a virtual land ownership mechanic. Think “PokemonGo” meets Monopoly.

5 REASONS WE LIKE ATLAS: EARTH

  1. Earning Rent in USD. You read that right. The creators of ATLAS: EARTH, Atlas Reality, Inc. claim that every parcel of land will earn rent. We’ve done some more digging into this. The rent per second won’t make you rich. In fact, each $5 parcel is estimated to generate around $.04 per year. That’s about a 1% return per year. However, the creators are saying you can boost ALL your land by 30X for an hour by watching an ad. This makes the returns possible a lot higher.

2. Becoming “Mayor” or “Governor”. The Mayor mechanic reminds us a lot about the super popular Foursquare feature. If you happen to own the most parcels of land in Austin TX, everyone or anyone who opens the game in Austin will see your username plastered front and center. We think it’s pretty cool bragging rights. Owning the most land in the State (of Texas in the same example) means you become governor. We hear there may even be rumors of a “president” role..

3. “Real 3D” Landmarks. The recent iOS15 update talked about recreated 3d models for landmarks. Atlas Reality is working on something similar - with the added benefit of players being able to own landmarks. In our chat with the company, we found out that locals will be the first to buy landmarks and then when a secondary sales phase opens up, anyone globally can buy the landmark off of you. In our opinion, landmarks seem like a great opportunity to speculate.

4. Earning “Free” Land. Atlas Reality has their own patent-pending tech where players can earn land credits whenever they shop at select merchants. The company assures us that this list is growing but already includes nationwide partners like SONIC, Jamba, Auntie Anne’s, Jimmy Johns and Speedway Gas stations. Every $100 spent at these merchant partners will unlock one more free parcel of land. Not too shabby!

5. Legit Creators. Atlas Reality, formerly Cerberus Interactive, has the backing of amazing investors including the founder and current CEO of Reddit, Steve Huffman.

They’ve also released another “real-world” location-based game that is already out called ATLAS: EMPIRES. ATLAS: EMPIRES has great reviews on both iOS and Android. We’ve played the game and are quite impressed with it. If anything, this shows that Atlas Reality has the chops to pull off their next ambitious dream, ATLAS: EARTH.
